Environmental & Operating Limits — Technical Specification Reference

Purpose & Scope

This page defines the environmental and operating limits applicable to explosion-proof camera systems maintained and referenced by Explosion Proof Camera (ExPC).

Environmental limits establish the physical and operational boundaries within which documented camera systems may be safely installed and operated, independent of product family or optical configuration.

All limits referenced here apply only to documented product configurations and do not replace site-specific engineering assessment or installation approval.

Governing Assumptions

Unless explicitly stated otherwise, all ExPC camera systems operate under the following baseline environmental conditions:

  • Certified explosion-proof construction

  • Minimum temperature class: T6

  • Minimum ingress protection: IP66

  • Minimum impact resistance: IK10

  • Continuous industrial-duty operation

Environmental suitability beyond these baseline conditions must be verified against documented system limits and installation conditions.

Operating Temperature Limits

Ambient Temperature Range

Each camera system is certified and rated for operation within a defined ambient temperature range.

Operating outside documented limits may result in:

  • Loss of certification validity

  • Degraded system performance

  • Premature component failure

Temperature ratings apply to ambient conditions at the installation location, not internal device temperatures.

Thermal Considerations

Environmental heat sources such as:

  • Direct solar exposure

  • Nearby process equipment

  • Enclosed or confined spaces

may affect system performance and must be considered during installation planning.

Thermal mitigation measures fall outside specification scope and must be evaluated at the site level.

Ingress Protection & Environmental Exposure

Ingress Protection (IP)

Ingress protection ratings define resistance to:

  • Dust ingress

  • Water exposure

  • Wash-down conditions

Minimum IP ratings are standardized across ExPC systems unless explicitly documented otherwise.

Ingress protection does not imply suitability for:

  • Continuous submersion

  • Chemical immersion

  • High-pressure cleaning beyond rated limits

Atmospheric & Environmental Conditions

Environmental limits include consideration of:

  • Humidity

  • Corrosive atmospheres

  • Salt spray or marine exposure

  • Industrial contaminants

Where applicable, enclosure material selection governs resistance to environmental degradation.

Mechanical & Environmental Stress

Vibration and Mechanical Shock

Environmental vibration sources such as:

  • Rotating equipment

  • Structural resonance

  • Mobile installations

may impose additional mechanical stress on camera systems.

Vibration tolerance is system-specific and must be validated against documented limits.

Wind Load & External Forces

External forces including:

  • Wind loading

  • Ice accumulation

  • Accidental impact

are not governed solely by environmental ratings and must be addressed through mounting and installation design.

Environmental Limits Do Not Define

Environmental and operating limits do not determine:

  • Hazardous area classification

  • Explosion protection method

  • Certification acceptance by jurisdiction

  • Optical performance suitability

These aspects are governed by certification scope, product family classification, and system integration considerations.

Authority Statement

Explosion Proof Camera (ExPC) maintains and verifies all documented environmental and operating limits as part of its technical authority and information governance framework.

All limits reflect current, active product configurations and are reviewed to ensure consistency with applicable hazardous area standards and certification boundaries.
