The F-Series explosion proof fixed cameras are certified for Class I, II, and III Division 1 and Zone 1/21 hazardous areas. This FAQ covers certifications, specifications, mounting options, and technical features to help engineers, safety professionals, and procurement managers specify the right F-Series camera for their application.
The Spectrum F-Series is a line of Explosion-Proof Fixed cameras designed and manufactured in the USA for permanent installation in hazardous areas. The lineup includes two generations: the F100 Series, a compact lightweight fixed camera, and the F200 Series, a more advanced system supporting multiple connectivity options including Power over Ethernet (PoE), Media Converter with SFP ports, 4G and 5G wireless. Both series are certified for Class I, II, and III Division 1 (Groups B, C, D, E, F, G) under North American standards and Zone 1/21 (IIB+H2 / IIIC) under ATEX and IECEx, making them suitable for oil and gas, chemical processing, offshore platforms, mining, and pharmaceutical manufacturing environments.
F-Series cameras carry a comprehensive set of global hazardous area certifications. The F100 Series holds cFMus, ATEX, IECEx, INMETRO, PESO, UKCA, and EAC certifications, with certification numbers IECEx FMG 18.0029X, FM18ATEX0073X, FM18US0232X, NCC 20.0084X, FMG 18.0029X, FM18CA0126X, and RU C-US.MIO62.B.00946/19. The F200 Series carries cFMus, ATEX, and IECEx certifications with numbers IECEx FMG 18.0029X, FM18ATEX0073X, FM18US0232X, and FM18CA0126X. This multi-certification coverage allows F-Series cameras to be deployed in hazardous locations across North America, Europe, South America, and international markets without additional local approvals in most regions. (INMETRO certifications for the F200 are underway and almost finalized giving global coverage and approvals).
F-Series Explosion-Proof cameras are certified for Class I, II, and III Division 1, Groups B, C, D, E, F, and G under the North American NEC and CEC classification system, and for Zone 1 and Zone 21 under the IEC international system, covering gas group IIB+H2 and dust group IIIC. This classification covers environments with flammable gases including hydrogen, flammable vapors, combustible dusts, and ignitable fibers. F-Series cameras are suitable for the most demanding Division 1 and Zone 1 hazardous locations found in refineries, petrochemical plants, offshore platforms, grain handling facilities, and chemical processing plants.
F-Series cameras offer flexible connectivity to match different site infrastructure requirements. The F100 Series supports Power over Ethernet (PoE) with redundant DC power input. The F200 Series expands on this with four connectivity configurations: PoE with redundant DC power, Media Converter with SFP fiber optic port and 120/240 VAC power, 4G wireless with integrated cellular modem and 120/240 VAC power, and 5G wireless with integrated cellular modem and 120/240 VAC power. Not all camera models within the F200 lineup are available in all four connectivity options. The 4G and 5G models ship with an antenna included and are suitable for remote or offshore locations without existing network cable infrastructure.
F100 Series cameras operate in ambient temperatures from 58°F to +140°F (-50°C to +60°C), one of the widest operating ranges available in the explosion proof camera market. F200 Series PoE and Media Converter models operate from -58°F to between +140°F and +194°F (-50°C to between +50°C and +90°C), depending on the specific model. F200 Wireless 4G and 5G models operate from -40°F to +140°F (40°C to +60°C). This extended low-temperature performance makes F-Series cameras suitable for Arctic, subarctic, and cold climate industrial installations without additional heating accessories in most cases.
Both F100 and F200 Series cameras use red, powder coated, Marine-Grade Aluminum enclosures, providing a strong, lightweight, and corrosion-resistant housing. The F100 Series weighs 12.4 lbs (5.6 kg) and carries an IP66 ingress protection rating, protecting against powerful water jets and total dust ingress. The F200 Series weighs 27 to 29 lbs (12.2 to 13.2 kg) and also carries an IP66 rating.
F-Series cameras cover a wide range of resolution options to suit different surveillance requirements. Available sensor configurations include 2MP, 4MP, 5MP, 8MP (4K UHD), and in selected F100 models, options from Bosch including the NBN-73023BA and NBN-80052BA with low-light performance down to 0.0121 lux. F200 Series cameras integrate AXIS sensors with Lightfinder 2.0 for superior low-light imaging, Forensic WDR for high-contrast scenes, and Analytics with Deep Learning (DLPU) for intelligent video analysis. The F201-Q1656 model includes a built-in wiper for rain and snow, particularly useful for outdoor process monitoring in exposed locations.
Every F100 Series camera ships with a Reliable Securing Kit (SF-RSK) and a 4-layer front glass protective film (F1XX-TO). Available mounting accessories include the F1XX-WM Fixed Wall Mount, F1XX-PM Fixed Pole Mount, F1XX-FM Flange Mount, and SF-CM/CM Ceiling and Pedestal Mount.
Every F200 Series camera ships with the F2XX-GM General Mount, front glass protective film (F2XX-TO), and Reliable Securing Kit (SF-RSK). F200-specific mounts include the F2XX-WM Fixed Wall Mount and F2XX-PM Fixed Pole Mount.
Both series are also compatible with the SCS-UM Universal Mount, SCS-PM and SCS-PM-XL Pole Mounts, SCS-MM Multi-Mount, SCS-CM Corner Mount, and SCS-VM Vibration Mount. The SF-RSK kit complies with the DROPS (Dropped Object Prevention Scheme) standard and includes vibration-ready hardware, a secondary retention cable, and galvanic corrosion prevention gaskets.
Yes. The F200 Series 4G and 5G wireless models are specifically designed for locations where running ethernet or fiber cable is impractical or cost-prohibitive, such as remote wellheads, temporary process monitoring stations, and offshore platforms in construction phases. These models integrate a cellular modem directly inside the explosion proof enclosure, eliminating the need for a separate external modem or wireless access pointin the hazardous area. They are compatible with commercial networks including T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon, as well as private 5G networks on N77 and N48 bands and private 4G on B48.
All F-Series explosion proof cameras are backed by a 5-year manufacturer warranty from Spectrum Camera Solutions. Spectrum’s manufacturing facility in Houston, Texas operates under ISO 9001 quality management certification and ISO 14001 environmental management certification. These standards govern the full production process from component sourcing through final assembly and testing, ensuring consistent product quality and traceability for every unit shipped. The 5-year warranty, when registered online, applies to both F100 and F200 Series cameras and reflects the durability standards built into each assembly.
Yes. The F200 Media Converter Series includes an integrated SFP fiber optic port inside the explosion proof enclosure, allowing direct connection to single-mode or multi-mode fiber optic networks. This is particularly valuable in large industrial facilities, offshore platforms, and sites where long cable runs exceed the 100-meter distance limit of copper ethernet, or where electrical isolation between network segments is required for safety or signal integrity reasons. The fiber optic variant is powered by 120 or 240 VAC and is available in 2MP, 4MP, 5MP, and 8MP configurations depending on the specific camera model.
The F-Series Explosion-Proof Fixed cameras manufactured in Marine-Grade Aluminum are supplied with a red, powder coated finish for multiple reasons.
• To enhance the resistance to the environmental conditions in which the camera is installed.
• To assist with ease of camera location when installed, either in poor light conditions, for a maintenance requirement, or in an emergency situation.
